How can indoor slipperiness associated with tracking slush,
snow melt and residual deicer onto hard surface flooring be prevented?
|
It is common knowledge that hard surface flooring can be slippery when
wet and that tracking slush, snowmelt and residual deicer may result in
wet floors. To help prevent tracking issues, adhere to the directions for
use on the product label. Do not over-apply the deicer, especially near
entranceways. Use entrance mats to avoid tracking snowmelt, slush or any
residual deicer onto interior floors made of hardwood, tile, stone, linoleum
or other hard surfaces, as these surfaces may become slippery when wet. If
residual deicer is tracked onto hard floors, it should be cleaned up as
soon as possible.

Because calcium chloride is highly water-soluble, it can usually be cleaned from
hard surfaces with warm, fresh water. For example, soak a mop or towel with fresh
water, wipe the surface and dry thoroughly. If a bucket is used for rinsing the mop
or towel, the water in the bucket should be changed out frequently for best results.
