Is it possible for asphalt, concrete or pavers to get darker after application of calcium
chloride deicer? If so, what can be done to get the surface back to its original appearance?
|
Under normal application conditions, there is no chemical reaction between calcium chloride and asphalt, concrete and pavers that would be expected to cause a dark discoloration. However, depending on the situation, residual liquid calcium chloride brine may soak into, and remain partially trapped within surface cracks and pores, leaving a "wet" appearance on the asphalt, concrete or paver. Because calcium chloride is attracted to water, this residual brine should rinse away over time when exposed to precipitation and/or water washing, returning the asphalt, concrete or paver to its original appearance.
